"Hello, I love you, won't you tell me my name?"

I've always thought The Doors were mostly overrated, drugged - out, faux - hippie douchebags. This guy's been living on Morrison's brief flicker of fame for what, 40 years at this point? Yeah, they did some interesting stuff, but time to step away from that keyboard now, Ray.

He also produced the first four X albums, which (even by association) makes him pretty necessary in my book.

I think Manzarek was at least as responsible for the Doors' success as Morrison was. He is the one, after all, who composed the famous keyboard intro to "Light My Fire", which became their signature song, which got them onto Sullivan, which led to more albums and touring, which led to Jim Morrison nailing Meg Ryan.
So, you see, it's really more accurate to say Jim Morrison was living off of Ray Mazarek.

Good point.

I still remember an old TV clip where Morrison passed out in mid-song and lay flat on his back on the stage while Manzarek hastily took over vocal duties (while still playing organ and keeping a bassline going with his feet!).
