League of Gentlemen

Female Jackie D | Category: Comedy • TV

Okay, I'm sick and passing the time by watching clips of my favorite British comedy shows on YouTube. Man, I love the internet. League of Gentlemen is probably my favorite British comedy of all time. It's dark, twisted, and makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. ("What do you want me to do about it, roll over and shit Mars Bars?") Anyway, check it out:

When I first starting watching it (I bought the DVD set) was like "WTF?" I had just watched series 1 of Little Britain and was sort of tuned to that frequency, so to speak.

I soldiered on, for Queen and Country. I closed my eyes - umm, metaphorically - and thought of England. Sure enough, nigh on to around the second disc, I found myself thinking about the show whenever I wasn't watching it, and I started telling everyone that my house was a local shop for local people, and that "there's nothing for you here!"

I still want to know what I watched, even after seeing it again. I love it, but I always come away with this "What exactly the fuck is going on here?" feeling. But I like it. The feeling, I mean. And the show.

By the way, Jackie - You're my wife now.

Papa Lazarou is the scariest character ever. I really can't watch that stuff. Some of it just too dark for me.

My favourite seasons were one and two, and I don't think I properly got into the third. But these guys are all geniuses - amazing actors and solid writers. I saw them perform in Art in London, and they blew me away live, too. Wish I'd seen the live version of LoG when it toured a few years ago.
