Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar
When I blogged on Samizdata.net about the Blowing Smoke's released-on-the blog adventure last week, the reactions were mostly positive, apart from one or two commenters getting all prudish about the movie. At first, I couldn't understand why, given that my post was based on Kamal's bet on a brave new distribution model, not on the content of the movie (and given that Samizdata.net blog with a gun and triopter is not for the faint-hearted). But it turns out that the esteemed commenters based their reactions on the poster rather than on what was written. Yep, a big cigar positioned on a female thigh, obviously a visual trigger-word for some. Alright, the tagline is suggestive too.
Offline, since the launch, I have had many people telling me how exciting and fascinating they find all this. I agree with them and it has been an interesting few days. And it is not just the cigar that gets us excited, but the idea of addressing the audience directly and getting them engaged.
So, apart from sitting back and watching what happens (whilst smoking some good cigars), there will be more things on the blog, from the movie download to blogging about ditigal technology and related topics, to keeping you posted about what's going on.
Remember, as Mr Freud would have said sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...

A meta/"small aside" issue:
I tried posting over at bigblogcompany.net, on the Blowing Smoke thread and I was blocked from doing so for some reason...
Is there something wrong with my email address? It is the same one that I am using for this post.

hm, I guess that would be our blacklist against trackback spam... I note that your email has "casino" in it and that would do it. We are using a different software and the blacklists might be different. Will looking into it.
